Art Students Help Mosaic Clients Show Their Talent

Life is a little different for the clients of Mosaic, an organization that helps individuals with challenges learn life skills. But their love of art and unique point of view make them talented in their own right. Students in the Art Special Projects class learned this first hand when they spent an afternoon helping them create landscape paintings this past January. The activity was part of a celebration of art made possible through the Southwest Arts and Humanities Council. Art students and Mosaic clients alike benefitted from the experience. JaCee Jarnagin and Jacob VanCampen found the clients to be a fun group of people. “Being around them was entertaining and they were all talented artists,” said Jarnagin. Samantha Larrick, Lauren Lohfink, and Danielle Asmus found the experience both rewarding and surprising. “Most people don’t realize how fun it is to be around them and how talented they are at art,” said Larrick. The students provided the clients with a picture for inspiration. That may not have been necessary, noted Asmus. “Most didn’t go off the landscape we provided, but they made their own masterpiece that reflected their personality.” Amy Stegman and Madison Landwehr noted the enthusiasm of the group. “The people there were very energetic and it made this experience fun!” said Stegman. The students expressed a unanimous desire to make a return visit. VanCampen summed it up this way: “The experience was extremely rewarding for everyone and we hope to have the opportunity to participate again in the future.” |
